You will serve as a ELECTRICIAN in the PIPE SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will install, repair, and maintain industrial electrical equipment and controls.
You will determine the size, type and gauge of wiring, conduit, couplings, fittings, relays, controls and distribution panels needed for safe and proper operation of complete electrical systems.
You will be lifting and carrying items that weigh up to 50 pounds; occasionally he/she may handle tools and equipment that weigh over 50 pounds.
You will test load factors and electrical control and safety devices, trace circuits and locate defects.
You will comply with standard electrical safety policies and procedures.

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Planning, laying out, and completing installation, modification, and repair of various systems, circuits, equipment, and controls.
Installing, maintaining, and repairing various industrial electrical and electronic wiring systems, electrical controls, electrically operated equipment or instruments.
Utilizing a wide variety of test equipment such as test meters, test lamps, voltmeters, ammeters, wattmeter's, ohmmeters, phase rotation indictors, tachometers, pyrometers, strobotacs, rheostats, industrial analyzers and other instruments.
Interpreting and applying blueprints, industrial wiring diagrams, and drawings as well as using formulas basic to the trade to figure such things as voltage and resistance.
Receiving written or oral assignments through work orders, blueprints, sketches, or any combination of these methods.
