About the Position: Serve as a Human Resources Assistant in a Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS). Incumbent of this position provides administrative Support to the Reception-Administration Control Desk (RACD), Record Maintenance & Accountability, and Enlistment Processing to include fingerprinting of applicants.

Duties

Gather information, not previously disclosed, which would bear on moral or physical suitability for enlistment. Question applicants to obtain and/or verify complete data required for final data processing of forms and records for entry into the military service. Refer applicants with additional disclosed information to the appropriate enlistment, recruiting, or processing authority. Verify applicants Emergency Data Records, and any discrepancies when differences occur.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position may require the employee to work an occasional Saturday and/or shift work (work before 6:00 a.m. or after 6:00 p.m.).
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • Successful completion of applicable Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Training is required in order to access the MHS GENESIS System.

Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience providing administrative/clerical support using office automation equipment to prepare a variety of documents such as, letters, memos and reports; Assist in preparing command messages related to U.S. Medical Entrance Processing Command (USMEPCOM) personnel; Review and edit proposed citations for correct grammar, punctuation and spelling. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education:: Successful completion of four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. Qualified Typist Requirement: In addition to meeting the experience/or education requirements, for all positions titled as Office Automation or any clerical positions which has parenthetical title of Office Automation (OA), applicants must have typing proficiency of 40 words per minute (wpm) based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.
