Duties
If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for performing both community-based outreach and liaison work, assigned to one of the community-based offices of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia. Typical work assignments will include:
Partners with neighborhood residents, community leaders, law enforcement, representatives from city agencies, and social services staff whose primary role is to identify the causes of crime, develop strategies and solutions for reducing crime, and to improve the quality of life for city residents;
Serves as a speaker, presenter, liaison and/or organizational representative to the public, the law enforcement community, and civil and community groups;
Assists in identifying community needs, assets, resources, and gaps in services affecting public safety and quality of life;
Assists in working with city government agencies to address community issues through proactive problem-solving;
Interacts with law enforcement, city residents and government agencies in person and via telephone and electronic mail for the purpose of enhancing knowledge of public safety concerns.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Requirements
- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
- You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
- If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
- Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
- You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: To be qualified at the GS-9 level the applicant must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-7 level work in the Federal service. The experience would have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience would be performing assignments that would require you to work with community members, community leaders, law enforcement, city representatives and social services staff to develop strategies and solutions for improving the quality of life for city residents; attending community meetings and serving as a speaker, presenter, liaison and/or organizational representative to the public, the law enforcement community, and civil and community groups; coordinating with law enforcement and the community to identify appropriate meetings and events the office could to participate in; sharing information on the availability of governmental programs, grant opportunities and initiatives geared toward crime reduction and community building; documenting, responding and following-up on complaints from community groups, residents, courts, social service agencies, law enforcement officers, community/faith based organizations. Fluency in the Spanish language is desirable, but not required. If you are substituting education for experience you must have 2 full years of progressively higher level education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related.
