This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Central Virginia VA Health Care System (Richmond Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC)), Richmond, VA within the Mental Health Service Line (MHSL). As Program Support Assistant (PSA) under the administrative supervision of the Suicide Prevention Program Manager; providing program and administrative support to the Suicide Prevention Program.

Duties

Duties include but are not limited to: ADMINISTRATIVE/CLERICAL SUPPORT Serves as a primary point of contact for Veterans, medical center staff, VISN staff, community agencies, and various others who contact the Suicide Prevention Program office. Participates in outreach activities, which are typically hosted off-campus; assists with event set-up, greets customers stopping by the table, describes the Suicide Prevention and the Veterans Crisis Line programs, refers visitors to the appropriate resources, and follows up with customers at a later time as appropriate. Responsible for collecting, compiling and/or tracking statistical information in support of program operations and to access status or outcomes in relation to established performance measures, goals, and objectives. Uses software applications to draw information from a wide variety of agency and national databases to manipulate data and prepare reports. DATA COLLECTION AND TRACKING SUPPORT Tracks and trends issues related to program effectiveness and role implementation. Assists with keeping program staff apprised of Veteran census and any unforeseen changes/problems encountered. Manage the Veteran flow through the Suicide Prevention program, with a goal of high census and compliance of performance measures at all times. Responsible for preparation and management of mailing list programs for Suicide Prevention Caring Contacts program, including entering data and maintaining accurate address and mailing information. BUDGETARY AND FINANCIAL Responsible for assisting with preparation and management of the Suicide Prevention program budgets, which may include effective utilization of resources and frequent fiscal coordination. Incumbent will be responsible for projecting/tracking the annual estimates of a variety of programmatic costs including grants and other special projects. WORKFORCE AND POSITION UTILIZATION Maintain calendar of appointments for the program staff related to Veterans, meetings, conference calls, and scheduled leave as well as coordinate meetings, prepare travel papers, schedule conferences, and assist the treatment team with all administrative functions and outreach activities. Performs other directly related duties as assigned Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm Telework: Ad hoc at the Supervisor's discretion. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/11/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. Selective Placement Factors (SPF) are a prerequisite to appointment and represent minimum requirements for the position. Applicants who do not meet the SPF are ineligible for further consideration. Typing Proficiency Requirement: You must certify (mention in resume) that you can type at least 40 words per minute. If you do not mention your typing speed or attest to typing 40 or more words per minute, you will NOT receive further consideration. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: providing program and administrative support to a program. Collecting, compiling and tracking data and information; processing documents and reports; establishing, updating and maintaining office files and records. Knowledge of VA polices and regulations. Knowledge of VISTA, CPRS, VATAS, MS Office, or other software program to input and retrieve data. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Administration and ManagementClericalCommunicationsComputer SkillsDecision MakingFinancial Management Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary, but a great deal of walking to all parts of the Medical Center is required since the incumbent will be working with a variety of clinical and administrative services.
