This National Guard position is for a SHEET METAL MECHANIC LEADER (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D0116000 and is part of the Oregon Air National Guard 142d Wing, National Guard.

Duties

As a SHEET METAL MECHANIC LEADER (TITLE 32), WL-3806-10, this position is located in an Aircraft Structural Maintenance Shop. The primary purpose of this position it to lead three or more mechanics by performing inspection, fabrication, modification, installation, and troubleshooting of sheet metal, fiber glass and other structural materials and components on aircraft and equipment. 1. On a regular and recurring basis during shift operations, leads three or more mechanics performing the work of the shop. 2. Monitors the work of assigned technicians by passing along dispatch and/or in-shop production assignments as directed by the supervisor and/or maintenance control, insures that needed materials, tools, and equipment are available, and obtains needed stock from supply locations as necessary. Works along with assigned technicians and sets the pace, performing non-supervisory sheet metal work. 3. Insures assigned technicians attend to work in order to insure full utilization of personnel and completion of assignments in accordance with established timeframes and priorities. Checks work in progress and/or upon completion for compliance with supervisor's instructions, appropriate tech orders, etc. Serves as a technical advisor by answering questions regarding appropriate procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives. Assures that safety, housekeeping, security and other environmental rules are followed. 4. Advises the supervisor on status and progress of work, causes of delay, and overall work operations, problems, and individual performance (e.g., additional on the job training requirements for individual employees). As requested by the supervisor, provides section factors for maintenance planning, and on a daily basis recommends adjustments, when necessary, in work shift schedules to provide optimum utilization of personnel in support of section requirements. 5. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Compatible Military AFSC Assignments: 2A773, must have an awarded 7-skill level to be considered for this position. Applicants outside of the ORANG must submit documents showing award of AFSC such as a Data Brief, vMPF rip, and/or DD214.
  • Military Grades: Minimum rank is TSgt/E-6 (immediately promotable to E-7) and maximum rank is MSgt/E-7. Applicants outside of the ORANG must submit documents showing current military rank such as a Data Brief, vMPF rip, and/or DD214.

Qualifications

Areas of Consideration: Area 1 - Current permanent and indefinite T32 technicians of the Oregon ANG. Area 2 - Current permanent and indefinite T5 employees of the Oregon ANG. Area 3 - Current service members in the Oregon ANG. Area 4 - Individuals in the active-duty US Air Force, Air Force Reserve, or Air National Guard. GENERAL and SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Work involves the fabrication, modification, repair, assembly, and installation of sheet metal parts, items, and assemblies. Metals include but are not restricted to galvanized and black iron, aluminum and aluminum alloys, stainless steel, copper, and brass sheets, lead alloys and bronze. Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the ability to plan, manufacture, and install cylindrical, square, or rectangular-shaped objects that have easily constructed fastenings such as single and double-hem edges and single, double or grooved seams. Must have at least 24 months experience or training in planning, layout, and construction skills to manufacture items and systems with dovetailed seams, set-in-bottom seams, burred-bottom seams, or wired or lock seams. Experience using more complicated shop tools and equipment. Experience in using metals including stainless steel, copper sheet, magnesium, honeycomb material and alloys. Experience demonstrating the use of more complicated mathematical calculations and complicated measuring instruments. In addition to the journeyman level knowledge, experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, organize, and lead the work of others in fields directly related the repair function of this occupational series. Must have the ability to perform administrative functions; to read and interpret a variety of technical publications used in the repair of supported equipment. The ability to provide guidance to others in work related directly to this occupational series.
