The Congressional Budget Office is a small nonpartisan agency that provides economic and budgetary analysis to the Congress. The Office of General Counsel seeks a legal intern with a strong work ethic to support the Office in its duties and functions during the summer of 2024.
Duties
The Congressional Budget Office is a small nonpartisan agency that provides economic and budgetary analysis to the Congress. The Office of General Counsel seeks a legal intern with a strong work ethic to support the Office in its duties and functions during the summer of 2023. The successful candidate will report directly to the General Counsel. Duties include conducting legislative research; drafting contracts; learning to review government contracts; with supervision, counseling clients on issues involving government ethics; and conducting other legal research to support CBOs analytic activities. Additional responsibilities include drafting legal memorandums and briefs about the significance of various court decisions to CBO, assisting with statutory interpretation, and verifying legal citations in draft CBO reports.

See Technical Qualifications TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS:Candidates must have completed their first two years of law school by May 31, 2023. CBO is not accepting recent graduates. The ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and complete projects under tight deadlines is required. Candidates should have strong communication and organizational skills and be able to perform requested legal and factual research using both electronic library searches. Strong interpersonal skills are a must, and candidates should be able to work independently and as a part of a team. Training or experience in legislative affairs and prior paralegal or legal office experience are desired but not required.
