The Division of Economic and Risk Analysis (DERA) advances the Commission's statutory mission to protect investors, maintain fair, orderly and efficient markets, and facilitate capital formation through sound economic analysis and rigorous data analytics. This position is in the Office of Economic Statistics (OES) in the Division.

Typical duties at the full performance level of SK-13 include:
Performs statistical analysis, interpretation, and presentation of economic data;
Provides statistical advice and recommendations concerning statistical methods and procedures as applied to the analysis of economic data;
Designs statistical protocols for studies, surveys, or analysis requiring new or innovative data collection strategies;
Utilizes statistical literature to modify standard methods for the most effective and efficient data analysis;
Evaluates data factors to determine trends and completeness of documents utilized by staff;
Presents briefing material to senior management.

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
BASIC REQUIREMENT:
A. Applicants must show successful completion of a full four-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements should be given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing. OR
B. An appropriate combination of education and experience---- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: In addition to meeting the basic requirement, applicants must also meet the minimum qualification requirement.
SK-11: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the SK-9 level. Specialized experience includes all of the following:
1. Providing statistical analysis on economic data sets to support programmatic decisions;
2. Developing and monitoring effective methods for the collection of quantitative data;
3. Interpreting results of statistical analysis; and
4. Conducting statistical studies, surveys and analyses.

Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or
LL.M., if related.

Combination of education and experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 1 full year.
SK-12: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the SK-11 level. Specialized experience includes all of the following.
1. Evaluating economic data to determine trends, completeness and accuracy;
2. Developing statistical protocols to ensure effective and thorough data analysis;
3. Interpreting results of statistical analysis; and
4. Conducting statistical studies, surveys, and analyses sufficient to use in briefing materials for senior management.
