This position is located at Departmental Offices, Domestic Finance-Financial Institutions. As a Policy Advisor, you will support the Office Director and officials in implementing policy analysis, development and implementation of initiatives, and support the functions of the Financial Literacy and Education Commission.
Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-13. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position. As a Policy Advisor, you will:
- Contribute in all aspects of development and implementation of policies and initiatives related to household financial security (including financial inclusion, savings, and financial education/capability), consumer financial services (such as student loans, mortgages, consumer credit, and payment services), and government programs and services that impact household financial security (such as taxes and benefit payments).
- Research and analyze to develop and propose policies and initiatives to improve household financial security, especially of low and middle-income individuals.
- Provide input, guidance and assistance to effectively implement Treasury programs and initiatives to help households build financial stability.
- Brief and advise senior Treasury officials on progress and developments in policy areas; monitor developments in consumer policy, and related legislative, regulatory and policy developments.
- Support the Financial Literacy and Education Commission's required functions for the Department by planning and organizing small group and public meetings, developing agendas, identifying and engaging topics and participants, and executing meeting logistics, in both virtual and in-person settings.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized experience for the GS-13: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes all of the following:
- Analyzing policies, programs and practices related to household financial security, such as financial inclusion, savings, and financial education and capability, or consumer financial services (such as student loans, mortgages, consumer credit, and payment services), and government programs and services that impact household financial security (such as taxes and benefit payments); AND
- Briefing and advising senior officials on progress and developments in policy areas; AND
- Engaging and coordinating with other governmental, non-profit, or private sector entities on policies, programs and practices in these areas; AND
- Assisting in developing and implementing policy recommendations, programs, or coordinated initiatives in these areas; AND
- Preparing findings, research, and proposals in written products of various types, including memoranda, tables, charts, presentations, and reports.

Time in Grade: In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-13, you must have been at the GS-12 level for 52 weeks. For the GS-12, you must have been at the GS-11 level for 52 weeks.
