You will serve as a HEALTH TECHNICIAN (AUDIOLOGY) in the Occupational Audiology Department under the Directorate of Public Health within the Military Treatment Facility (MTF) of NMRTU CHINA LAKE CA. This announcement uses the Expansion of Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service. GS-05 $43,646 - $56,746 GS-06 $48,655 - $63,247

Duties

You will perform tympanometry and special diagnostic audiometric testing under the supervision of the Audiologist. You will select and fit appropriate hearing protective devices. You will generate and distribute compliance rate reports, permanent threshold shift rates, and other pertinent reports directly related to the local hearing conservation program. You will schedule and coordinate the annual calibration and maintenance of all audiology equipment. You will be responsible for scheduling appointments for the Audiologist.

Requirements

  • In accordance with BUMEDINST 1500.15F, employees assigned to or subject to being assigned to duties providing direct patient care, either diagnostic or therapeutic must possess and maintain the Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • In accordance with BUMEDINST 6220.9B CH-1, this position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • In accordance with BUMEDINST 1500.15C employees assigned to or subject to being assigned to duties providing direct patient care, either diagnostic or therapeutic must possess and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Maintain current, valid certification as an Occupational Hearing Conservation Technician and successfully achieves annual technician provider competency assessments.
  • The incumbent may be required to work on any day or shift, including night, weekends, holidays, or on an ?on call? basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
  • This position is eligible for full time telework. Your pay will depend on your geographic location.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

For GS-05: In order to qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position such as: Must be physically able to work 9 hour days (no more than 80 per pay period). Must be a team player and willing to assist other areas within Occupational Health. Must know how to properly document patient information within the electronic health record Must know how to prepare Microsoft Word documents and Excel spreadsheets as needed for the Department Head. Utilizing exceptional customer service skills. For GS-06: In order to qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position:

For GS-06 - Successful completion of: One half full year (9 Semester hours) of graduate level education directly related to the position. (If using education to qualify copy of transcript must be attached) - Failure to submit this information WILL result in an ineligible rating.

For GS-05 - Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. (If using education to qualify copy of transcript must be attached) - Failure to submit this information WILL result in an ineligible rating.

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements.
