You will serve as a HEALTH TECHNICIAN (AUDIOLOGY) in the Occupational Audiology Department of NMRTU CHINA LAKE CA. This announcement uses the Expansion of Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense of the Department of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

Duties

You will access vital patient health history data and reviews health issues impacting hearing sensitivity or audiological test results. You will administer surveillance hearing tests on personnel enrolled in the Hearing Conservation Program (HCP) and on those requiring medical surveillance hearing screenings. You will assist the audiologist with virtual tele-audiology appointments. You will evaluate outer and middle ear function through otoscopic examination of the ear canals, tympanometry, and acoustic reflex screening procedures. You will evaluate test and procedure results, reviews results with patients, and consult with the audiologist when triaging patient dispositions based on audiometric test and procedure and outcome. You will provide hearing health education for noise exposed worker. You will assist in performing analysis of health education needs for noise exposed worker. You will appropriately fit and dispense hearing protection devices to HCP personnel undergoing an initial hearing test or for individuals demonstrating a shift in hearing. You will prepare equipment and patients for virtual tele-audiology appointments and communicate with the audiologist during and after testing concludes.

  • The incumbent may be required to work on any day or shift, including night, weekends, holidays, or on an ?on call? basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
  • In accordance with BUMEDINST 1500.15F, employees assigned to or subject to being assigned to duties providing direct patient care, either diagnostic or therapeutic must possess and maintain the Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • IAW BUMEDINST 6220.9B CH-1, all health care personnel who provide direct patient care in MYFs will be immunized against the seasonal influenza infection each year unless there is a documented medical or religious reason not to be immunized.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Documenting individualized medical notes on each patient in the electronic health recording; Performing audiological examinations, tests, and evaluations; Compiling patient medical data and occupational history to determine requirements for hearing evaluations; Identifying and applying diagnosis and procedure medical codes to each patient encounter; Utilizing audiology/hearing conservation automated software and/or database, (e.g., DOEHRS-HC or other executive department, (e.g., DOD), approved hearing conversation testing software application), to assists with coordinating software updates at required periodicities, and helps troubleshoot software/hardware problems; AND Conducting daily audiometric data exports to executive department, (e.g., DOD), hearing conservation system Data Repository (DR), and periodic data backup to local shared drives. SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position:

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements.
