The United States Attorney's Office for the Western District of Pennsylvania is an energetic and collegial office of 131 employees and contractors which prosecutes federal offenses, defends the United States Government's interests, and affirmatively pursues claims on behalf of the government, representing the United States in all criminal prosecutions, and civil and appellate litigation in the Western District of Pennsylvania. This position is located in Pittsburgh, PA.

Duties

The United States Attorney's Office in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is seeking an Assistant United States Attorney to develop the District's e-Litigation practices and procedures and to be responsible for leading the District in implementing standardized discovery and case-management practices, while ensuring that appropriate e-Litigation resources are utilized to effectively manage, analyze, and present case data. The successful applicant will work to: improve the use of existing tools (e.g., Eclipse, Everlaw, eZmanage, Evidence.com), and learn new tools as they become available; ensure all AUSAs and support staff receive the necessary training to meet the challenges of e-Litigation and e-document management; act as the USAO's primary liaison on e-Litigation issues to Department components, including EOUSA, as well as the Federal Public Defender, the Court, and other law enforcement agencies; and provide technical and strategic guidance to litigating teams on the collection, review, production, and presentation of evidence. As workload permits, the e-Litigation AUSA may assist criminal and civil AUSAs in all phases of the litigative components of their cases. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation. Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof.   • You must be a United States Citizen or National.

  • J.D. degree and active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) required.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 3 years post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience. United States citizenship is required. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with complex civil or criminal litigation and with using litigation technology applications to acquire, organize, analyze and present electronic discovery and evidence is strongly preferred. Successful candidates should have a strong academic background, possess superior oral and written communication skills, possess strong interpersonal skills, and have demonstrated the capacity to work effectively with a team, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and function with minimal guidance in a highly demanding environment. Successful candidates should also possess the knowledge and ability to use computers and computer applications in performing day-to-day work requirements. You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.
