This position is located within the Office of Airports Safety and Standards, Airports Safety and Operations Division; and serves as a national senior technical subject-matter expert in the areas of airport operations, certification and safety.
Duties
While this position does not maintain Part 139 Airport Certification Safety Inspector (ACSI) credentials, the incumbent provides national technical support to the Part 139 airport certification program, along with general aviation airport safety. Supports Headquarters and Regional ACSIs in policy and guidance regarding national standardization and consistency in conducting periodic and surveillance inspections at Part 139 certified airports, including medium to large hub airports.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-I, FG/GS-13 level. This experience is typically related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been at least equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Specialized experience is defined as: Experience conducting and/or observing inspections at airports to ensure operational safety and/or compliance with FAA standards and regulations.AND;Experience reviewing and interpreting airport certification manuals and emergency plans required by regulation.AND;Experience using airport layout plans, obstruction charts, safety equipment descriptions, construction drawings and/or other documents related to airport certification requirements.AND;Experience applying wildlife hazard management and/or mitigation on airports.AND;Experience utilizing Safety Management Systems (SMS).-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------You should include relevant examples of the specialized experience in your work history.
