Duties

This position services as a section supervisor within the Remote Sensing/Fire Weather Support Unit (RSFWSU) and provides direct daily supervision, oversight and technical guidance for one of the two Support Sections (Field/Depot). Responsible for the development and implementation of the section's troubleshooting, maintenance, operational, safety and certification standards, as well as all procedures necessary to maintain RAWS within specified standards. Assists the Branch Chief in the pursuit of continuous performance improvement of the RSFWSU. Maintains accurate records regarding time and funding committed to all Depot or Field Support Section activities. Coordinates with the engineering staff of suppliers and vendors to develop hardware and software solutions to meet the sections requirements, as well as present technical recommendations to the Branch Chief. Responsible for coordinating directly with counterparts (e.g., maintenance supervisors, electronics technicians, interagency points of contact) to ensure the standardization, integrity, and proper functioning of the Interagency RAWS network. Supervision of advanced electronic theory technicians who perform duties consisting of maintenance, installation, calibration, repair and design/redesign of a wide variety of electronic systems, equipment and components. Evaluation and technical analysis of electronic, computer, and electro-mechanical equipment and systems is required to ensure field applications and operational parameters are in accordance with National Fire Danger Rating System Standards. Responsible for programming and annual budgeting submissions and ensures program accomplishments are within budget allocations. Makes recommendations for budget adjustments.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience: In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the minimum qualification requirements - please be sure to include this information in your resume. For GS-13: You must possess one year specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: experience in technical and administrative supervision of electronic theory technicians; experience in repairing, maintaining, calibrating, redesigning, and modifying complex multi-discipline automatic weather systems utilizing schematic diagrams, a variety of test equipment, and the application of appropriate electronic formulas; experience in applying theoretical understanding of electronics to the evaluation of systems, equipment and components against performance standards, design parameters and user requirements; experience in the development of test procedures to locate systems and equipment design deficiencies in order to provide solutions to complex interrelated problems; experience developing an integrated acquisition management plan that describes the business, technical, and support strategies, including the relationship between the acquisition phases, work efforts, and key program events; experience working with clients and customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level.
