You will serve as a Research Biologist, Code 6920 within NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies. Duties

You will perform research and development at the interface of materials, chemistry, and biology with a focus on the development of novel functional bio/nanomaterials for the controlled modulation of cellular function. You will plan and execute experiments and write and present results in support of larger program goals. You will prepare research findings and proposals for presentation to sponsors. You will develop and maintain laboratory space to secure and utilize approved biological materials. You will engage with postdoctoral fellows and students as a mentor in relevant areas of expertise.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS 05/10 grade level or NP-02 pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Knowledge of cell biology with an emphasis on cell culture and maintenance of cell lines, fluorescence and enzymatic cell-based assays for monitoring various aspects of cellular physiology including, for example, viability and proliferation Demonstrated skill in confocal fluorescence microscopy (Nikon A1R platform preferred but not required) and quantitative live cell imaging Skill and proficiency in photophysical instrumentation (uv-vis spectrophotometer, fluorometer, and fluorescence plate reader) Demonstrated excellent writing/presentation/proposal skills Demonstrated record of publication in the field of cell biology and bionanomaterials This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: This position requires demonstrated experience in the following: the culture of established mammalian cell lines and primary cells (neuronal cell and inducible pluripotent stem cell culture experience is desired but not required), quantitative cellular imaging and fluorescence-based cellular assays, confocal fluorescence microscopy, working understanding and familiarity with various nanoparticle systems (quantum dots, gold nanoparticles, liposomes), uv-vis spectroscopy, fluorescence-based assays, and bioconjugation/purification. Education

Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
or
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

After meeting the basic education requirement, the following may be substituted in lieu of the above mentioned specialized experience:3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

A combination of education and experience totaling 100%.
