The primary purpose of this position is to serve as s the organization's IT focal point. Manages all aspects to include planning, acquisition, installation, training, and troubleshooting of hardware and software in support of organizational users.
Duties
Provide guidance, assistance, and training to customers
Serve as a technical advisor to management
Serve as unit telephone control officer
Recommend selection of, installs, upgrades, and maintains software
Serve as the unit network security officer

- Work may occasionally require employee to travel away from normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft

- Information Assurance Certification is a condition of employment per DoD 8570.01-M, the incumbent of this position must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of these duties
- A waiver of this six month requirement may be granted per DoD 8570.01-M, C3.2.4.2 or C3.2.4.3. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position
- The work involves regular and recurring periods of performing repairs and installing equipment requiring extended periods of standing, walking, stretching, bending, stooping, and carrying of objects weighing as much as 45 pounds
- The majority of work is performed in adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated, but is not limited to this work environment. Some work may be completed at the location of computer equipment that is in small, poorly lit areas
- This position may be required to work other than normal duty hours
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Clerical and Administrative Support Positions
SPECIALIZED OR GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 level in federal service which equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience is experience which may have been gained while providing guidance, assistance and training to customers; demonstrating processes and procedures to users; preparing operating procedures and recommends automated methods for better use of resources; conducting Computer System Security Officer (CSSO) training to include contingency planning and incoming personnel security procedures; developing transportation strategic plans for enhancement of the system environment; developing functional and technical requirements for acquisitions, conducting cost-benefit analyses, feasibility studies, and related activities.

EDUCATION: Two full years of graduate level education in a field directly related which demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the Computer Assistant NOTE: You must submit a copy of your official transcripts

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of automated data processing and database standards, policies, and techniques.; and knowledge of Microsoft Office Productivity applications.
Knowledge of computer hardware and software systems and their interfaces; and higher level programming languages and other job control languages.
Knowledge of information processing sequences, controls, and procedures.
Knowledge of facility environment and infrastructure to support computer systems, and to provide user support.
Ability to use and maintain a computer system, equipment, and software; analyze computer network, software, and hardware problems and develop effective and economical solutions; train users on new computer systems; and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
