This position is located in the Clinical Services Department of the Quentin N. Burdick Memorial Health Care Facility in Belcourt, ND. The purpose of the work is to establish criteria and assess effectiveness of patient treatment and to treat patients with the goal of returning them to the highest level of health. The work has an impact on the mental and physical health of patients.
Duties
Performs the full range of care required to motivate and redirect the behavior of psychiatric patients.
Performs mental status examination on psychiatric patients, recognizes the major categories of psychiatric disorders and documents these findings clearly in the medical record.
Performs psychiatric intakes and evaluations, and prescribes medications. Incumbent works closely with other members of the total treatment team in the formulation of the total care plan for patients.
Makes diagnosis and decisions concerning medical and nursing care needs of patients. Formulates and implements plan of care which may involve various treatment modalities, prescribing medications, consultation with other health care providers and referrals.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education: For Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) positions, applicants must possess a graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position.
Licensure
For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Additional License Requirements for Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: Applicants for Advanced Practice Nurse positions must be licensed or registered by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position.
Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-9 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-9:Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Performs psychiatric intakes and evaluations and implements plan of care. Or, possess a masters degree in professional nursing.
GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Provides direct psychiatric services to patients of all ages. Makes diagnosis and decisions concerning medical and nursing care needs. Formulates and implements plan of care which may involve various treatment modalities and prescribing medications. Or, successfully completed a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program.
GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Provides comprehensive professional psychiatric nursing care in preventive and therapeutic services to all age groups that includes assessment, diagnosis and treatment of various illnesses, formulate and implement treatment plans, prescribe medications, order and interpret diagnostic tests, educate and counsel patients, and collaborate with physicians concerning patient care and management.
GS-13: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Provides independent diagnostic, preventive and therapeutic psychiatric nursing and medical services for patients of varying complexity and advanced nature utilizing advanced clinical and analytical skills.
