This position is located in the Directorate for Mathematical and Physical Sciences (MPS), Division of Mathematical Sciences (DMS).
Duties
The Program Analyst applies qualitative and/or quantitative analytical techniques and information management skills to capture, assemble, and disseminate data about assigned projects. In the performance of work assignments, the Program Analyst conducts analyses, prepares evaluations, coordinates activities, and provides advice to management for one or more of the following areas:
Project Management:
Plan, develop, implement and track project plans, guidelines, budgets, procedures and timetables.
Perform management studies to evaluate and measure the progress and success of projects and recommend changes in policy and management activities.
Collect pertinent statistical data and narrative information from a variety of sources and apply analytical techniques to data management systems to identify patterns and trends and develop tracking and reporting systems to monitor activities.
Financial Resources Management:
Qualifications
To qualify at the GS-09 level, you must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in the Federal service performing analytical functions. OR
A master's or equivalent graduate degree. OR
Two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree. OR
A combination of post high school education and experience that together meet the qualification requirements for this position.
Examples of specialized experience may include: conducting analysis of financial matters; using various data management systems to identify patterns/trends, and to track/monitor analytical activities; & assisting in the performance of management studies to evaluate programs and offer recommendations.
To qualify at the GS-11 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level in the Federal service performing complex analyses. OR
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. OR
Three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. OR
A combination of post high school education and experience that combined meet the qualification requirements for this position.
Examples of specialized experience may include: using quantitative and qualitative analytical techniques to evaluate the effectiveness of administrative procedures; engaging in ongoing analysis of financial matters to determine resources required and ensuring that regulations concerning financial management are adhered to; applying various analytical techniques to data management systems in order to identify patterns and trends; performing management studies to evaluate and measure the progress and success of projects assigned and to identify and recommend ways to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of programs and activities.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, & skills & can provide valuable training/experience that translates directly to paid work. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
