THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a ITSPEC (NETWORK) (TITLE 32), Position Description Number NGD0262000 and is part of the TN ARMY National Guard. This vacancy is covered by Association of Civilian Technicians (ACT), Chapter 103 (Volunteer Chapter). This announcement is a dual bid with JOA TN-12109464-AR-T523-060. Duties

As an ITSPEC (NETWORK), GS-2210-11, you will perform a variety of network device configuration and connectivity tasks. Execute procedures and coordinates corrective action to optimize network performance. Installs,configures and monitors tested and evaluated software packages that provide performance measurements of the WAN/LAN. Implement the standard configuration software loads for all network devices. Utilize benchmarks and performance measurement and evaluation data to manage network servers and data communication devices to support normal and surge workload. Work with technical support personnel in resolving critical problems. Use remote management software tools to maintain and update configuration, protocol and user/system files. Document and track change to configuration, protocol and user/system files. Execute appropriate action to ensure backup processes are completed. Evaluate the performance of network devices such as servers, workstations, and peripheral devices, and remote access systems. Coordinate the development and implementation of configuration management plans for complex LANs and WANs with supported elements to include headquarters staff elements, tenant activities, state government, regional operating activities and national agencies. Implement plans and procedures for remote installation of applications and upgrades using state of the art software distribution methods. Monitor distribution of applications and upgrades ensuring compliance with regulations and copyright laws. Implement procedures to ensure accurate records of authorized users of distributed software are maintained. Implement the standard operating procedures for all devices on the network. Review and evaluates proposed software. Provide input to briefings and presentations on the complexities of the installation networks. These briefings provide the basis for long-range decision planning relating to C4 network project management. Analyze equipment and software reliability and utilization reports to identify and define problem areas and to establish end-to-end systems performance levels. Perform other duties are assigned.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.

  • THIS POSITION CONDUCTS INFORMATION ASSURANCE FUNCTIONS. THE INCUMBENT SHALL COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE CERTIFICATION PROGRAM AND WILL BE REQUIRED TO OBTAIN AND MAINTAIN CERTIFICATION. REQUIREMENTS ARE OUTLINED IN DOD INSTRUCTION 8570.01-M
  • For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver?s license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.
  • Acceptance of a Federal position will terminate Tricare eligibility.

Qualifications

Military Grades: E-4 through O-4 GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education or training that has provided a basic knowledge of data processing functions and general management principles that enabled the applicant to understand the stages required to automate a work process. Experience may have been gained in work such as computer operator or assistant, computer sales representative, program analyst, or other positions that required the use or adaptation of computer programs and systems. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 36 months or 1-year at the next lower level experience, education, or training that approaches techniques and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area in an organization. Experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment where this entailed coordination with others outside the organizational unit and development of project controls. Experience that required adaptations of guidelines or precedents to meet the needs of the assignment. Experience preparing documentation on cost/benefit studies where is involved summarizing the material and organizing it in a logical fashion.
