About the Position: This job announcement is for a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic Supervisor with the U.S Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District. This supervisory position is located at the Mississippi River Project Office in Pleasant Valley, Iowa.

Duties

Adjust plans, priorities, assignments, and methods to accomplish work effectively and efficiently. Determine how many assignments can be done concurrently, which ones must be delayed, and the number and types of employees needed, considering skills, personnel, materials, and equipment available and required. Review work in progress and perform quality assurance inspections at the time of completion. Explain work requirements, methods, procedures, instruct on new procedures and provide advice when problems arise. Oversee repair, assembly, adjustment, and troubleshooting of major mechanical systems and components for heavy mobile equipment and vehicles. Plan use of subordinate workers' equipment, facilities, and materials on a week-to-week or month-to-month basis.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must possess a valid State motor vehicle operator's license for the class of vehicle being operated based on site-specific, job-related requirements, and must maintain this license.
  • On occasion, may be required to lift and carry items or materials weighing in excess of 50 pounds.

To meet the screen out element applicants must show the ability to perform common duties such as: repairing heavy mobile equipment and vehicles; assist with reviewing completed repairs on heavy mobile equipment and vehicles; and illustrate troubleshooting analysis to diagnose malfunctions. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)Ability To Lead or SuperviseKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Trouble Shooting Physical Effort: This position requires standing, stooping, bending, occasional lifting in excess of 50 pounds, stretching, working in cramped positions and spaces, handling or maneuvering bulky equipment, and general continuous moderate to demanding physical effort. Working Conditions: Work crews are routinely assigned to remote locations not only within the duty location River Project, but also other area projects and potentially other Mississippi Valley Division (MVD) Districts. Work assignments are typically on an ongoing basis and are accomplished within several weeks to months. Employee is required to observe established safe working procedures. Appropriate protective clothing and/or equipment is provided to minimize or eliminate hazardous conditions, and its use is mandatory. Incumbent will be exposed to all weather conditions.
