Duties
Serves as a Lock & Security Specialist at a Bureau of Prisons Federal Prison Camp (FPC). Functions as the institution authority on security equipment such as locks, locking devices and systems, blue print and schematic analyzing. Ensures the physical security of the facility as it relates to structural requirements, operations and total familiarization of the life safety codes for the institution environment. Analyzes mechanical, electrical locks, locking systems, engineering blue prints, weapon repair and schematics. Troubleshoots locks and locking devices, and makes necessary repairs. Performs preventive maintenance on all equipment maintained in the armory, and makes repairs as necessary. Maintains inventory and determines proper level of supplies and equipment required to keep the armory functional and ready in all respects. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and is performed on a regular and recurring basis.

Qualifications
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualifications requirements. Education Master’s or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B or J.D., if related. Graduate education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Experience One year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Some examples of this qualifying experience are:
Experience in maintaining the armory where weapons and ammunition are stored. Weapons include rifles, carbines, stun guns, less lethal munitions, pistols, riot shotguns, gas guns, ammunition for the above weapons, chemical agents, riot equipment, and protective gear.
Experience in analyzing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic locks; locking systems; engineering blue prints; weapon repair, and schematics.
Experience in maintaining tel-key systems for daily and emergency use; ensuring all institution keys are properly issued, and that documentation is accurately maintained and coincides with daily key count.
