You will serve as a MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATOR in the Motor Transport Section (Base Motor Pool), Transportation Branch, G-4 Logistics Division of MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO.

Duties

You will conduct pre and post operation inspection of equipment. You will arrive at designated stops on time without compromising safety of the passengers by exceeding authorized speeds. You will ensure proper operation of school bus safety controls when transporting students. You will report all violations of the Student Code of Conduct to appropriate school principals and/or administrators in accordance with regulations. You will operate gasoline or diesel-powered passenger busses of multiple types and models, including coach, activity, and forward-controlled.

Requirements

  • You must have use of both eyes with near and far vision within normal range with or without corrective devices, and have visual depth perception with the ability to basic distinguish colors.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You must possess and maintain a Class "B" (or higher) CDL with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements, A copy of your CDL MUST be provided with your application.
  • You must obtain a U.S. Government Vehicle Operator's Permit within a period pending availability of testing.
  • You must complete all assigned training and obtain and maintain all required certifications.
  • You must pass pre-employment physical.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random drug testing.
  • You will be required to pass an American Red Cross accredited CPR training course within a period pending availability of training administered by the employer.
  • You will work a split 8 hour shift from 0600-1000 and from 1300-1700 during the week
  • This position requires rotating shift work.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is the ability to perform the duties of a Motor Vehicle Operator as demonstrated by experience, working under normal supervision, operating School Buses, over public roads; overseeing the loading, and unloading of passengers, handling the controls for starting, stopping, backing, shifting and driving the vehicle; judging overhead and side clearances, turning radius, and braking distance from the preceding vehicle; following prescribed routes; maintaining route schedules; understanding and applying safety rules and regulations, using defensive driving techniques; conducting pre and post trip vehicle inspections; completing trip tickets and accident reports (as needed); notifying supervisors or dispatchers if disturbances prevent the safe operation of the bus and possess an Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
