This position is with the National Forest System, Recreation, Heritage and Volunteer Resources.
This position serves as the Deputy Director with responsible for leading change, business acumen, communications, environmental awareness, leadership, interpersonal relations, and management functions for agency-wide integration and adoption of sustainable outdoor recreation.

Duties
Formulate and implement broad policies, plans, standards, and procedures that enable the development, implementation, and management of programs and activities that create a resilient organizational.
Provide expert guidance and assistance in the overall business functions for the management of complex projects, studies, and action items related to sustainable recreation.
Coordinate program activities within and across the National Forest System deputy area, and ensures open communication in an effort to enable solutions and complementary results in support of the agency mission.
Present explanatory and technical information to be considered in the review and analysis process for the resulting approval or disapproval decisions of functional projects and programs.
Ensure program management plans, reports, and reviews are developed, coordinated, and distributed in a timely manner and to a quality standard.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.

- Successful completion of one year probationary period, unless previously served.

Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-15: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as majority of the following: Serving as a senior advisor to top-level agency officials as a recognized authority on Recreation and Wilderness programs, issues, and/or concerns; assisting policy and decision makers in understanding complex program issues; formulating and providing natural resources guidance to a complex program; overseeing work that has significant effects over a wide region or over multiple natural resource programs; developing a strategic plan for natural resource programs; participating in and leading interdisciplinary teams.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
