Will be responsible for the counter control of the Auto Skills Center which includes resale transactions, answering phones and customer questions, verifying patron eligibility and issuing tools. May provide assistance with maintenance and minor auto repair. Circulates among the patrons to maintain good order and safe operation of equipment.
Workdays are Tuesday through Friday 8:30AM - 5:00-PM, Saturday 7:30AM - 4:00PM.
This position is opened to the local commuting area only.
Duties
Performs a full range of services such as assisting customers, answering phones and customer questions, verifying patron eligibility, providing information on facility operations, taking special orders, taking payment for services, following up on delinquent payments, making refunds or adjustments, resolving routine complaints, and any other customer service related duties or transactions. Will operate a Point of Sales (POS) systems, run a cash register, receive payment, and make change. Prepares end of shift report and makes daily deposits. Assists in the maintenance of pertinent forms, records and logs relating to the customer service transactions.
Registers patrons, maintains records and reports of Auto Skills activities and services. Issue and receive tools, makes stall assignments and handles work area requests by authorized patrons. Ensure that all autos are checked in and out properly, and that auto stalls are cleaned by patrons after use. Ensure that facility and equipment are used properly and all policies are followed. May assist with patrons with the proper use of tools and equipment and minor auto repair tasks. Informs supervisor if additional equipment, parts, tools or supplies are required.
Requirements
- Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation. Background investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and completion of background inquiry forms.
- Must successfully pass the E-verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
- You must go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9.
- May be required to pass pre-employment examinations.
- Must provide proof of U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National.
- A valid State driver's license is required to operate motor vehicles.
- Must have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
- Must hold an Emergency First Responder (EFR) or CPR First Aid certification upon being placed in the position OR be able to obtain these trainings/certifications within 90 days of being placed in the position.
Qualifications

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Must have customer service experience, organizational skills, computer experience, cash handling and Point of Sales (POS) experience, and experience with opening and closing a facility. Preferred candidates will have experience with the use of tools and equipment related to an Auto Skills Center operation with at least six (6) months experience working in an automotive parts/shop environment. Possess the ability to advise patrons in the proper use of tools and facility equipment.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
