Duties

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team in the Budget and Finance Section (BFS) of the Administrative Division, that is responsible for processing travel and other financial functions for the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia. Typical work assignments will include: -Maintains and reconciles account records. -Receives, examines and processes travel vouchers to ensure correctness, legality, justification and compliance with regulations. -Identifies cost and billing problems associated with service providers, contractors, and/or travel vendors. -Assigns appropriate accounting classification codes and object classification. -Initiates and processes travel vouchers. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
  • You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.

Qualifications

To qualify as a GS-07 Accounting Technician, you must have one year equivalent to at least the GS-06 level of specialized experience. Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized Experience is defined as utilizing knowledge of accounting systems, accounting codes, classifications, and terminology in reconciling obligations, expenditures, and account records; reviewing, analyzing, and verifying travel documents to ensure invoices are sufficient and accurate; ensuring travel expenditures are coded to the correct service provider or vendor; preparing reports for management on current obligations and expenditures; and communicating with service providers to resolve discrepancies regarding travel. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
