Employees will be part of a dynamic engineering team, working with Department of Defense (DoD), DOE, and industry leaders. Team members are expected to operate at a high-performance pace and develop and maintain a radical teaming-centric culture. These positions provide support for the modernization of the ground-based leg of America's nuclear deterrence program. DUTIES: Serve as the Requirements Subgroup Chair and subject matter expert on warhead requirements, providing technical expertise on day-to-day activities of the W87-1 LPO (or SAFETY, SURETY, CYBERSECURITY & RELIABILITY SUBGROUP Chair and subject matter expert on warhead cybersecurity and manage issues affecting safety, surety, cybersecurity, or reliability) Develop and report system requirements, flight environment analysis, and technical parameters for the W87-1 warhead on the M21A re-entry vehicle. Oversee technical management activities associated with program execution. Partner with Department of Defense (DoD), DOE, and industry stakeholders within the acquisition communities to prioritize requirements. Conduct technical reviews; proactively develop and present technical briefings and reports to program stakeholders and senior leaders. Identify and resolve highly complex problems crossing organizational boundaries; develop solutions to advance program success. SKILLS: Experience with acquisition, design, development, operation and/or life cycle sustainment of a product/system with complex engineering and management challenges is required. Knowledge in defense weapon system development, especially experience related to ICBM is highly desired. Familiarity with ICBM warheads reliability, availability, and maintainability is highly valued. Experience on a multi-functional, dynamic engineering team with diverse stakeholders is also highly desired.

  • Telework may be authorized.

  • Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance, and will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.
  • Locations are not negotiable. The actual duty locations available may be located on the Air Force Civilian Service website.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing

  • In accordance with the Ethics in Government Act, 1978, employee may be required to file an OGE Form 450, Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, upon appointment and will be required to file annually.
  • Employee must meet Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements, which includes achieving Engineering and Technical Management ?Practitioner? certification category within required timeframe after appointment.
  • Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY): Approximately 10 days per year.
  • May requiring driving a motorized vehicle around the missile complex.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of a wide range of multidisciplinary professional engineering concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, techniques, materials, and equipment to effectively apply advanced engineering theories, principles, and concepts to project development, execution, and advisory services. 2. Knowledge of development engineering methodologies sufficient to apply experimental theories and/or new applications to issues and provide technical advice and direction in support of weapon systems, subsystems, and/or support equipment. 3. Knowledge of systems engineering practices and procedures as they pertain to sustainment, modification, logistics, and production management principles, concepts, policies, and systems. 4. Knowledge of the principles of planning and program management; of standard acquisition regulations, practices, and procedures; and of other engineering disciplines used in support of sustainment, modification, and maintenance programs. 5. Ability to devise and evaluate criteria, parameters, characteristics, and interrelationships for design approaches; to assess the impact of new technology on current systems and processes; and to gather, assemble, and analyze facts, form conclusions, and devise and recommend solutions to problems.
