About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley's performing arts center, and recreational facilities.
Duties
Serves as official point-of-contact for all Directorate of Public Works customers or installation officials.
Resolves routine and/or complex complaints. Recommends appropriate solutions regarding unique problems.
Conducts ongoing program to educate customers on how to obtain support and to familiarize customers with policies and procedures.
Manages the Interactive Customer Evaluation (ICE) program for the Directorate of Public Works with responsibility for managing, coordinating, and responding to ICE complaints.
Writes and edits publications and articles for the Directorate of Public Works, to include newspaper articles, flyers, pamphlets, and social media or other electronic material.
Recommends changes to written material for publication. Ensures materials use appropriate grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Verifies narrative content is suitable for publication and meets publication requirements.
Performs additional administrative duties such as calendar maintenance, periodic reporting on customer feedback, review of correspondence, and maintaining logs and data.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid government driver's license to operate government vehicles.
- The incumbent may be required to visit off-site areas to include training camps, golf course, water and/or power plants.
- The incumbent may be required to visit work sites where work is on-going, being exposed to dirt, dust, and other elements.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Interacting with customers to handle complaints; 2) Responding to customer questions and/or requests regarding an organization's operations or services; and, 3) Utilizing automated systems or software to write, edit and recommend changes to publications/articles which include, letters, newsletters, newspaper articles, flyers, pamphlets and/or all other printed or electronic material to include social media. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
