Duties
Reviews job jacket for identification of paper stock, ink, and plates; Gathers materials and supplies needed to complete the job; notifies pressperson when supplies are diminishing and need to be reordered.
Obtains stock from designated area by use of a truck, loads stock into feed unit of press by hand or with the use of a truck, sets pre-loader, brings load to pre-staging area height, and engages feeder tapes.
Maintains and operates take-out desks.
Sets-up feeder and ensures that paper is moving properly through the press and is in register. Throughout pressrun, monitors side guide to make certain that stock is in register and is feeding correctly.
Monitors press for any problems and notifies pressperson immediately of any problems. Includes, but is not limited to: stock shifting in feeder and catch-ups or foreign objects on plates and/or blankets that could obstruct printing.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is Required.
- Selectee must successfully pass all pre-employment requirements.
- Males born after 12/03/59 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Selectee may be required to serve a one year probationary period.
- Selectee must be able to obtain and maintain a secret clearance.
- Duties may require prolonged standing, walking, stooping, bending, stretching, reaching above the shoulder, and climbing. An extensive amount of hand, wrist, and arm movements is involved.
- Moderate lifting is required for objects weighing up to 75 pounds. Incumbent is required to have good eye-hand coordination, dexterity, proficient vision, and the ability to discern colors.
- Duties are performed in a press production environment where there is exposure to moving mechanical parts, noise, ink mist, odors/fumes, spray powder, and paper dust.
- Ear protection, face masks, and safety shoes are provided and are required for the incumbent to wear when presses are running.
- To avoid material loss or bodily injury, extreme caution is required when operating material handling truck. The work is performed indoors, with no exposure to excessive heat of cold.

To minimally qualify for the KX-4401-7 level, you must meet the requirement below: Applicants must meet SCREEN OUT/JOB ELEMENT #1 Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision: assisting in the operation of multi-unit or multi-color offset sheetfed presses. and the Following Job Elements:

Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic)
Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (other than blueprint reading)
