The Physical Therapist position at the Clinical Resource Hub (CRH) provides specialty care/pain rehabilitation services to a panel of patients at VISN facilities through a combination of virtually and in-person as part of an interprofessional specialty pain care team providing specialty pain care to Veterans. Clinical Video Telehealth (CVT) is the primary modality for treatment, though this position may require occasional travel to VISN medical centers or Community Based Outreach Clinics (CBOC).

VA Careers - Physical Therapy: https://youtube.com/embed/Gi2hoFqIoqY Plans and carries out the full range of treatment where therapeutic objectives are complex, and procedures require the application of highly specialized skills and knowledge, including but not limited to the application of orthopedic manual therapy as it relates to complex chronic pain conditions. Applies experience from at least 6 months of training or work as team member within an interdisciplinary Chronic Pain Rehabilitation Program. Established treatment procedures are not always applicable and at times must be substantially adapted and applied with critical concern for patients with multiple chronic conditions. Responsible for the application of behavioral strategies to recognize and address fear-avoidance presentations, as well as for adapting physical therapy approaches to patients presenting with a combination of severe mental and physical disabilities. Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings, as well as pain committee meetings. Participates in program development activities related to CARF accreditation, including data collection/management, policy development/adherence, and documentation. Functions as a mentor in the area of complicated medical conditions (such as chronic pain) and provides specific instruction and training to students and other members of the multidisciplinary team. Also provides instruction to patient and family in these areas as appropriate to their roles and level of understanding. Basic Requirements: The following are the basic requirements and qualifications for appointment as a Physical Therapist in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). English Language Proficiency Requirement- Per VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section A, Paragraph 3j: No person will be appointed under authority of 38 U.S.C., chapter 73 or 74, to serve in a direct patient-care capacity in VHA who is not proficient in written and spoken English. Education Requirement- The individual must meet at least one of the requirements below: Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy AND five (5) years of progressively independent experience as a physical therapist, OR Master's degree in Physical Therapy AND two (2) years of progressively independent experience as a physical therapist, OR Doctorate degree in physical therapy. NOTE: Individuals must be a graduate of a Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) accredited college or university. Transcripts Required. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: In addition to the Basic Requirements above, applicants must meet the following grade requirements. GS-11 Grade level-Education, Experience and Licensure: None beyond the Basic Requirements. GS-12 Grade level- Education, Experience and Licensure: In addition to the basic requirements, candidates must possess one year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level, hold a valid unrestricted state license and demonstrate all the KSAs below: Ability to make autonomous clinical decisions in a Direct Access environment. This includes ability to independently evaluate and treat patients who seek physical therapy services. Skill in performing examinations and evaluations of individuals who have or may develop impairments, activity limitations, and participation restrictions related to conditions of the musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiovascular, pulmonary, and/or integumentary systems while considering the effects attributable to unique psychosocial and environmental factors. Ability to interpret findings from examination and evaluation, select appropriate test and measures, and integrate findings into the physical therapy plan of care for the full range of patient populations. Ability to establish a diagnosis within the scope of physical therapy and identify the appropriate rehabilitation intervention, including referral to another provider for further consultation as clinically indicated. Ability to determine physical therapy prognosis by incorporating examination findings with the patient's preferences in order to set clinically appropriate treatment goals, optimize outcomes and maximize functional independence. Ability to independently provide clinical oversight of Physical Therapy Assistants as well as students on clinical affiliations who are in Doctoral PT Programs or PTA Programs.
