This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Diversion Control Division (DC), Office of Diversion Control Operations (DO). This position(s) primary purpose is to serve as a Special Assistant to the Deputy Assistant Administrator (DAA) on a range of issues dealing with organizational change, organizational culture, strategic management planning, public speaking, and professional writing.

As a Special Assistant your typical work assignments may include: Assists the Deputy Assistant Administrator in the transmission of guidance and decisions to the appropriate staff elements. Maintains close contact with key Agency staff and other federal agencies as necessary to keep fully information on operations and to coordinate actions involving multiple organizational elements. Attends and organizes meetings, conferences, and seminars to assemble tasking and/or questions, coordinates appropriate replies and ensures positive communications are maintained between offices. Assures that projects proceed in a manner consistent with approved objectives, costs, and schedules. Performs quick reaction studies, analysis and professional writing for the Deputy Assistant Administrator. Prepares communications such as the development of mission statements, special reports, etc. within assigned areas and respond in oral and written form to requests for information by determining the nature of the information required and assembling the material using the appropriate format and style based on needs and organization.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the Specialized Experience requirements as noted below. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience for this position includes: To qualify at the GS-14 grade level:You must demonstrate one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-13 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) performing the following duties: 1) Coordinating administrative and managerial policies of an agency and ensuring the policies reflect efficient and effective use of time and resources; 2) Providing administrative program direction to various subordinate offices, directors, and their staff; 3) Developing correspondence to senior management that communicates the intent on key issues regarding an agency's mission and operations; and, 4) Representing assigned programs in internal and external communications efforts to ensure that critical programs/projects are properly and successfully presented to the proper audiences. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Competencies: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competencies in the following areas: Administration and ManagementPlanning and EvaluatingTechnical CompetenceWriting Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-14 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-13. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
