This position serves as a Laundry Machine Operator in the sorting, washing, drying, pressing linens and other articles at the VA Medical Center in Fort Harrison, MT.
Duties
Major duties and responsibilities include:
Constructing and repairing clothing and equipment made of fabrics.
Operating commercial type laundry washers, extractors, tumblers, or conditioners. Also loads, unloads, and controls machines.
Following set procedures set to control machines.
Using standard procedures to set timers by type of load for one or more combinations of laundry machines such as tumblers, extractors, and conditioners.
Using standard procedures to set timers per weight of loads; Balancing loads by distributing loads evenly.
Operating and controlling machines for sorting, ironing, and folding.
Maintaining work area and equipment to sanitary standards.
Performing janitorial duties in work area including sweeping, moping, washing windows, washing walls, clean furniture and fixtures, and emptying waste cans.
Performing other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: 8:00am-4:430pm Monday-Friday also to include some weekends and Holidays

Qualifications
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: The employee will be required to have strength and stamina for doing heavy physical tasks for long periods of time. This could include pulling wet laundry form washer, pushing heavy carts, and lifting bundles weighing over 50 pounds. Stands and walks continuously on concrete floors.
Work is performed inside a laundry facility with higher than normal temperatures, high humidity and prolonged exposure to loud noises. The incumbent is exposed to possible injury from high pressure steam, and fast moving machinery. The employee can be continually exposed to the possibilities of bruises from moving carts or falls on wet floors in the washing area.
