This position is located at Chinle Service Unit, Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Services, Division of Clinical Services, Counseling Services Department, Chinle, AZ. The purpose of this position is to provide direct mental health services as well as function as a member of the adult, adolescent and child treatment teams and to provide consultation to outpatient clinics, inpatient wards, urgent care and emergency department; and to carry out educational and vocational counseling with clients.

Duties

Works with clients with difficult and complex problems of personal adjustment or vocational rehabilitation. Receives clients who are either initially assigned to them or who are referred to them by other staff psychologists who are not as experienced in counseling. Incumbent provides psychotherapeutic and other psychological services as needed which may include, but are not limited to family therapy, behavioral therapy, individual therapy, play therapy, group therapy, marriage therapy, and testing. Assess the nature of mental health problems specific to Native American families, evaluates methods used in the treatment of problems. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Degree: major or equivalent in psychology for all specializations except clinical psychology. This specialization has additional educational requirements, as stated below: Counseling psychology: For positions at grades GS-9 and above, satisfactory completion of 2 full academic years of graduate study directly related to professional work in counseling psychology, or satisfactory completion in an accredited educational institution of all the requirements for a master's degree directly related to counseling psychology is required. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1-year specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Mastery of and skilled in professional psychological principles and theories, methodologies and techniques in a variety of settings and circumstances in direct services to patients and/or their families; Participate in developing treatment programs for patients, and advise and consult with all levels of professional staff concerning psychological characteristics and behavior changes of clients; Advanced skills in interviewing which includes communicating acceptable interest and encouragement and selective use of questioning, explanation, and guidance; Ability to assess data and interpret appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to age specific needs in: neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: Must possess an active unrestricted License in Counseling Psychology from any U.S. State. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
