About the Position:
Works under the general supervision of the Senior Instructor or Fire Support Branch Chief , 1/78 FA Battalion, 428th FA BDE, who makes assignments for projects on a continuing basis and provides any background information necessary. Serves as an instructor for the 13F Fire Support Specialist Course (Advanced Individual Training Courses (AIT), managing all aspects of the systems support (CFFT, LLDR and PFD) and POI execution.
Duties
Prepare the daily work plan for each phase of each training session. Selects and organizes training materials, practical exercises, programmed texts, training aids, lesson plans, field and technical manuals, and training aids for each session.
Develop supplementary training materials based on needs based analysis.
Insure that instructional material for assigned units is up to date.
Provide technical guidance to assistant instructors during practical exercise periods.
Apply specialized knowledge of observed fire procedures and specialized equipment LLDR, PFD and related communication devices such as SINGARS.
Conduct training utilizing appropriate instructional techniques such as lecture, demonstration, and laboratory exercises to teach theory and practical application of observed fire procedures both voice and digital using the Call For Fire Trainer.
Train newly assigned instructors to the 13F Joint Fires Support Specialist schoolhouse.
Assess individual student's performance in fulfilling educational objectives and provides special or remedial training when appropriate.
Develop objective and performance oriented tests.
Requirements
- Employee shall possess and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Physical Demands. Good physical condition. Position requires considerable walking, standing and speaking. Capable of visiting field locations. Frequently lifts and carries 40 pounds.
- Work Environment. Field and garrison locations during day and night and extreme weather conditions, i.e., rain, snow, and wind. Travel to off post training areas. Some overnight travel may be required, normally not to exceed one week in duration.
- Employee accepts government property from the accountable officer on hand receipt and exercises reasonable and prudent actions to ensure proper use, care, custody, and safekeeping of that property.
- Incumbent shall be licensed to operate administrative use vehicles such as sedans, passenger vans and pickup or stake bed truck normally not exceeding 5 ton capacity.
- This position will require changes in work schedule. Management will, in advance, reschedule the employee's regularly scheduled administrative workweek to correspond with the specific days and hours required to accomplish the mission.
- The work requires travel up to 10% of the time away from home station (TDY).

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that demonstrates a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction which includes: Update training materials for Call For Fire Trainer (CFFT), Precision Fires Electronic Designator (PFED), and Lightweight Laser Designator Rangefinder (LLDR); Prepare training schedules for input into training database; Maintain training data to include course purpose, scope and prerequisites for CFFT, PFED, and LLDR; Apply working knowledge of CFFT, PFED, and LLDR to recommend modifications to course and/or course content based on changes in subject matter or equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
