The Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC) for whom this functional statement applies is a member of the Suicide Prevention team assigned to provide the full range of professional mental health services at the Eastern Kansas Health Care System (EKHCS) Topeka, Leavenworth, and CBOC locations. This includes assessment, evidence-based individual and group psychotherapy, psychoeducational intervention, and team consultation in the clinical management of Veteran/patient care.

Duties

This positions can be filled by a Clinical Psychologist, Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC), or Senior Social Worker. The following is a list of the open announcements for this position: Clinical Psychologist -CBSS-12091750-23-CMJ (Internal) CBSS-12091751-23-CMJ (Public) Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC) -CBSS-12091752-23-CMJ Senior Social Worker -CBSS-12091753-23-CMJ The LPMHC independently practices professional counseling and provides mental health services within the knowledge, theory, and training foundations of professional counseling. He/she consults with peers; first line supervisor, Program Managers (as applicable) and the Behavioral Health Service Line Manager as needed. He/she reports to the Associate Chief of Psychology as the first line supervisor. The Behavioral Health Service Line Manager has full responsibility for managing and supervising all aspects of behavioral health service operations, responsible for the provision of mental health services. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Hold a master's or doctoral degree in: Clinical Mental Health Counseling; Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling; Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling; or a related field, from a program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Examples of related mental health counseling field include, but are not limited to, Addiction Counseling; Community Counseling; Gerontology Counseling; Marital, Couple, and Family Counseling. A doctoral degree in mental health counseling may not be substituted for the master's degree in mental health counseling. (TRANSCRIPT MUST BE PROVIDED WITH APPLICATION) Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to LPMHC positions in the GS-0183 series in VHA must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to independently practice as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor, which includes diagnosis and treatment. English Language Proficiency: LPMHCs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3.j. Grade Determinations: GS-12: In addition to the basic requirements, candidates must have at least one year of progressively complex experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must have been in a major specialty treatment program area such as, but not limited to, Post- Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), mental health intensive case management (MHICM), or other areas of equivalent scope and complexity. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. In addition to meeting the KSAs for the GS-11 grade level, the candidate must demonstrate all of the KSAs below: (*) In depth knowledge of the program coordinated and demonstrated knowledge and ability to write policies procedures and or practice guidelines for the program. (*) Ability to make key decisions in the hiring and identification of top candidates. (*) Ability to provide leadership in facilitating the process of coordinating program consults, assessments, admissions, care assignments and discharges. (*) Ability to provide subject matter consultation to other colleagues and trainees within the field of counseling working on an interdisciplinary team. Physical Requirements: Work is sedentary but also demands standing, walking, bending, twisting, and carrying light items.
