The incumbent is a licensed physician and serves as the Medical Deputy Director for the Outpatient Department at the Whiteriver Service Unit, with full responsibility for planning, development, organization, integration, and evaluation of the outpatient services. In addition, will provide direct supervision of medical staff members assigned to the outpatient department to include both professional and nonprofessional medical staff.

Duties

Outpatient Department Administration: Evaluates, develops, and implements improvements in the outpatient department under the Outpatient Director's direction for WRSU. Reports to the Outpatient Director on outpatient department issues such as policy, procedures, equipment, staffing, performance improvement projects as well as Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) and performance measures. Directly supervises primary care physicians who are assigned to the Outpatient Department. Responsible for organizing and prioritizing work assignments, coordinating with other departments/groups and completing the delivery of services. Direct Patient Care: Provides comprehensive medical care within the limits of delineated clinical privileges and specialty. Evaluates patients for medical conditions, establishes, and implements an appropriate care plan. Interviews and examines patients, reviews past medical history, requests or performs diagnostic tests and examinations deemed necessary to obtain all possible information related to each case. Makes preliminary diagnosis, directs, prescribes or provides treatment or arranges for specialized care or patient referral as required. Conducts outpatient clinics making observations appropriate to the outpatient's underlying disease and treatment plan, including current symptoms. Reviews the patient's medication, diet, therapy course, adherence to management plan and patient observations. Modifies regimen as indicated. Instructs and counsels patients and family members as required.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association (external link); Association of American Medical Colleges (external link); Liaison Committee on Medical Education (external link); Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association (external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Medical School: A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (external link), a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. For purposes of this standard, graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada. Descriptions of such programs are described below. Internship Program involves broadly based clinical practice in which physicians acquire experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g., internal medicine, surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics). Such programs are in hospitals or other institutions accredited for internship training by a recognized body of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) (external link). Residency Program involves training in a specialized field of medicine in a hospital or an institution accredited for training in the specialty by a recognized body of the American Medical Association (external link), (AMA) or Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Fellowship program involves advanced training (beyond residency training) in a given medical specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital or an institution accredited in the United States for such training. GS-15 - Additional Requirements: Five (5) years of graduate training (e.g., residency and/or fellowship) in a specialty/sub-specialty or equivalent experience and training (e.g., work experience in a specialty after residency). Final Year Residents: Applications will be accepted from applicants who are in their final year of residency and expected to complete their residency training before their first day of duty. Such applicants are required to provide evidence of meeting all position requirements before they can enter on duty. Selective Placement Factor: In addition to the basic requirement and minimum qualifications, the following has been determined to be essential to perform the duties of this position: Board Certification or Board Eligibility in the physician's specialty/sub-specialty, by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). Applicants who do not meet a selective placement factor are ineligible for further consideration.
