The United States Department of Justice, Antitrust Division, is seeking an experienced attorney to serve in the position of Assistant Chief in its Washington Criminal I (WC1) Section. This is a supervisory GS-15 management detail. The WC1 Section investigates and prosecutes criminal violations of the federal antitrust and related laws, including those involving corporations and individual executives.

Duties

The WC1 Section investigates and litigates criminal antitrust matters, handles criminal matters of national and international scope, and serves as the Division's liaison with U.S. attorneys, state attorneys general, and other regional law enforcement agencies. The Division's criminal enforcement program investigates and prosecutes bid-rigging, price-fixing, market allocation, and bribery and other fraudulent schemes designed to undermine competition. The Assistant Chief will assist the Chief in managing cases and personnel, as well as assisting with career development, training and mentoring. The Assistant Chief may also be responsible for leading investigations and prosecutions. If the selectee is not re-selected for this position at the end of the three- year period, the selectee will return to the position of Trial Attorney.

Qualifications

To qualify, an applicant must: Be a citizen of the United States; Possess a J.D. degree or equivalent, be an active member of the bar in good standing (any U.S. jurisdiction), have at least four years of post-J.D legal experience. The successful applicant will have significant, wide-ranging legal experience and expertise in a law enforcement environment, including: Significant experience working effectively with staff in the investigation and prosecution of antitrust or related white-collar criminal matters; Strong federal litigation experience; The ability to identify quickly and to describe succinctly, orally and in writing, the salient legal issues in complex Division investigations; Demonstrated experience in representing the Division or other Department components to other government organizations and private sector companies and firms; The ability to work closely as part of a management team with oversight of the Division's matters and to work effectively with Division employees in all areas; Experience managing or leading groups of attorneys, including formal or informal mentoring of less-experienced attorneys; and Thorough knowledge of and up-to-date experience in applying the full range of policies and procedures governing the investigation of civil or criminal matters within the Division.

Education

You must possess a J.D. or equivalent degree to qualify for consideration as a Trial Attorney for the Department of Justice, Antitrust Division.
