The primary purpose of this position is to provide expertise to the department in the area of electronic resource management, digital collection analysis, data visualization, and statistical reports in the US Air Force Academy undergraduate, academic library's Technical Services.

Duties

Support Technical Services functions to provide metadata services to the organization and its customers at the undergraduate college level. Explore options to integrate vendor published data in local systems and services. Provide technical support to troubleshoot and resolve access issues. Perform original or modified descriptive cataloging, subject analysis, and classification of a wide variety of specialized information in all formats. Advise management on metadata management systems and other technologies available to improve management of and access to multi-format materials (e.g., related to print collections, e-book holdings, and serials management). Advise the library's collection development teams on relevant aspects of collection management, including the receiving, description, organization, maintenance, and removal of materials in support of the teaching mission.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Individual Occupational Requirements for1410 series. Basic Requirements for GS-1410 Librarian Series: A. Completion of one (1) full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree. NOTE: You must submit transcripts with your application. Education will not be credited without documentation. OR B. A total of at least five (5) years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience. To qualify on this basis, the applicant must establish conclusively that the education, training, and experience provided a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services. IN ADDITION TO THE BASIC REQUIREMENTS ABOVE, YOU MUST MEET ONE OF THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS: GS-09: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level which equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of Librarian. Specialized experience is experience which may have been gained while assisting in the area of electronic resource management, digital collection analysis, data visualization, and statistical reports in an undergraduate, academic library's Technical Services. OR EDUCATION: Two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education or master's in library science or equivalent graduate degree, e.g., LL.B. or J.D., related to the position. GS-11: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level which equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of Librarian. Specialized experience is experience which may have been gained while providing technical expertise in the area of electronic resource management, digital collection analysis, data visualization, and statistical reports in an undergraduate, academic library's Technical Services. OR EDUCATION: Three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education in or doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) related in library science. Knowledge of all aspects of a federal college, undergraduate level library principles, concepts, methodology, operations, functions, and management to perform the professional and administrative duties of the position. 2. Knowledge of the policies, procedures, systems, and interrelationships of a federal college-level library, the library's databases, on-line information retrieval and research techniques, and information source classification and description to meet organizational requirements. 3. Knowledge of marketing and outreach techniques and of the interests and needs of customers and organizations served to promote undergraduate college library use. 4. Knowledge of publishers' and suppliers' methods of operation, established procurement rules and regulations, and internal organizational and networked information centers acquisition policies. 5. Ability to advise library employees and customers using knowledge of pedagogical techniques, and skill to teach information seeking strategies. 6. Ability to communicate orally and in writing to resolve a variety of information access problems and to convey to customers the full scope of library resources available. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
