The Office of Inspector General is an independent office within the EPA that helps the agency protect the environment in a more efficient & cost effective manner. We perform audits, evaluations, & investigations of the EPA to promote economy, efficiency, and to prevent and detect fraud, waste and abuse. We strive to provide solutions to problems that ultimately result in making America a cleaner and healthier place.

Duties

This position is located in the Office of Inspector General (OIG), Office of Special Review and Evaluation (OSRE), Administrative Investigations Directorate (AID). The OIG Hotline is the OIG’s main point of contact for agency employees and members of the public to report fraud, waste, abuse and mismanagement in agency programs and operations, and violations of law, regulations and policies by EPA and CSB employees, grantees, contractors and program participants. The incumbent is responsible for coordinating hotline activities and providing daily operational oversight for addressing hotline complaints and allegations.

  • Background Investigation Required.

Qualifications

All applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:  GS-09: 1) Performing a wide range of research and analytical methods; and 2) Preparing written material in a clear, concise, and effective manner to prepare documentation and referrals of complaints and suggestions. or master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related. GS-11: (1) Conducting interviews, observation, and the analysis of assigned tasks; and 2) Preparing written materials to include but not limited to research documentation, referrals of complaints, and suggestions. -or- Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. GS-12: (1) Conducting interviews, observation, and the analysis of assigned tasks; 2) Representing the services and point-of-view of the organization in meetings with officials and staff of the agency, including senior leadership. 3) Preparing written materials to include but not limited to research documentation, referrals of complaints, and suggestions. 4) Assisting with operational oversight for addressing allegations and complaints submitted through a direct line, such as a hotline or helpline. GS-13: (1) Coordinating the activities for a hotline, helpline, or other direct line designed to gather allegations and complaints. 2) Performing tasks associated with research such as examining records, document preparation and reporting, identification and coordination of analytical studies, and the coordination of supplemental data sources. 3) Providing operational oversight for addressing allegations and complaints submitted through a direct line, such as a hotline or helpline.
