This position is located in the Phoenix Indian Medical Center (PIMC), located in Phoenix, AZ. PIMC also serves as a referral center for nine reservation hospitals and a variety of ambulatory care facilities within the jurisdiction of the Phoenix Area. The Nurse Educator is responsible for the assessment, design, implementation and the evaluation of staff development and/or clinical education programs for clinical staff.
Duties
Prepares a Clinical Educational Plan that incorporates the educational needs of clinical employees that relates to the provision of safe and therapeutic health care.
Assesses learning needs of multi-level healthcare staff utilizing a variety of survey tools and studies from which recommendations for in-service education, specialized training, individualized training, and new and improved training programs can be made.
Document employee participation in educational activities to ensure compliance with all required Joint Commission, Center for Medicaid Medicare Services (CMS), IHS, and other federal regulations.
Ensures annual CPR, Infection Control and Safety certifications/reviews for all assigned employees are documented.
Maintains up-to-date knowledge and skill in clinical and nursing education. Consults with and participates in professional organizations on a local, national and/or international level as necessary.
Identifies own learning needs and assumes responsibility for continuing education. Keeps abreast of appropriate issues and trends as they relate to health care education. Demonstrates knowledge and skills in the clinical practice area.
Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S), GS-0610:
Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained; OR,
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (external link) is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-11:Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Utilizes existing and self-developed teaching tools, course material, and class population and consults with other members of the educational department team for their input into specialized training programs. Assesses learning and training needs of newly licensed nursing staff and contract/agency staff utilizing a variety of tools from which recommendations for in-service education, specialized training, individualized training, and new and improved training programs can be made. Collects and organizes data obtained from assessment methods. Teaches and/or directs and coordinates others to teach utilizing new or adapted approaches. Utilizes appropriate teaching methodology and leveling techniques to ensure course effectiveness and proper learner responses.
OR
Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.
In addition to the mandatory license and education described above under Basic Requirements applicants must have at least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level.

10) Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse
11) Progressive Care Nursing (Adult)
12) Medical-Surgical Nursing
13) Stroke Certified Registered Nurse
14) Trauma Certified Registered Nurse
15) Inpatient Obstetric Nursing (RNC-OB)
