This is a Pathways Internship Program Appointment designed to serve as a developmental experience in conjunction with formal education, to provide the Pathways Intern with the knowledge, skills, and abilities for employment in the civil service career. The Pathways Internship Program is open to all eligible students regardless of age, including older individuals and veterans who are students.

Duties

The incumbent performs a variety of administrative and technical duties in support of Office of Communications and Legislative Affairs to mass communications products. Under guidance of Office of Communications and Legislative Affairs senior staff, incumbent plans, creates, edits, and distributes multimedia content supporting the agency?s mission. With guidance from Office of Communications and Legislative Affairs senior staff, plans, creates, and executes communications scripts and storyboards for visual information products. Uses a variety of applications and tools to create multimedia content, such as Adobe Creative Cloud, digital cameras and audiovisual equipment. Under guidance of senior staff, the incumbent formats news releases, photos, videos, graphics, podcasts, infographics, talking points, speeches and agency messages. Incumbent plans, creates, edits, and distributes multimedia content supporting the agency?s mission.

Requirements

  • Selectee may be required to serve a trial period
  • Must sign a Pathways Participant Agreement
  • Be accepted for enrollment or enrolled and seeking a degree or certificate in a qualifying educational institution on a half-to full-time basis (as determined by the educational institution)
  • Required to provide proof of continued enrollment and maintain a good academic standing (as defined by the educational institution) throughout the internship program

Qualifications

Pathways Internship Program EligibilityThe Pathways Internship Program is open to all eligible students regardless of age, including older individuals and veterans who are students. Program participants may be appointed to any grade level for which they qualify. Previous education and/or experience may be evaluated to determine the highest grade level for which the individual is qualified. GS-7 Student Trainee (Communication Support): To qualify for the GS-7 level, you must have completed 1 full academic years of graduate level education or meet the following: Have a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement (defined below) in film and media production, journalism, public affairs, digital storytelling, communication, photography, or other fields related to the position. OR Possess a combination of specialized experience and graduate education that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position (Must submit copy of transcripts). GS-9 Student Trainee (Communications Support): Completion of 2 academic years of graduate level education, or a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree. You may also qualify for the GS-09 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Providing communication-oriented documents, such as memoranda and policy directives Providing effective techniques of communication Recommending solutions for communication problems Developing presentations to achieve a more balanced perspective In addition to meeting the above minimum qualification requirement, you must meet the Pathways Internship Program Eligibility requirements: you must be a current student in an accredited high school, college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate. Applicants must meet the definition of a "Student" at the time of appointment and throughout the duration of the appointment. Student is defined as: an individual who has been accepted for enrollment or enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution, on a full or half-time basis (as defined by the institution in which the student is enrolled). The Pathways Internship Program is open to all eligible students regardless of age, including older individuals and veterans who are students. All Education must be accredited by an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications (particularly positions with a positive education requirement.) Therefore, applicants must report only attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accredited institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. ATTENTION VETERANS: A veteran, as defined in 5 U.S.C. 2108, who due to military service obligation, was precluded from applying to the Recent Graduates Program during any portion of the 2-year eligibility period shall have a full 2-year period of eligibility upon his or her release or discharge from active duty. In no event, however, may the individual's eligibility period extend beyond 6 years from the date on which the individual completed the requirements of an academic course of study. Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements (e.g., time-in-grade and qualification requirements) within 30 days of the closing date specified in the vacancy announcement. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

This position has a basic education requirement listed under the Qualifications section of this announcement. You must submit a copy of your college transcripts. An unofficial copy is sufficient with the application if it includes your name and the necessary course information; however, if you are selected, you will be required to submit official transcripts prior to entering on duty.

All education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications.
