About the Position: You will function as a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist with the Army Corps of Engineers, Nashville Integrated Project, located in Grand Rivers, Kentucky. Providing consultation and expert advice to field office construction managers on safety and occupational health requirements, standards, and procedures.

Duties

Assist field office construction managers in planning and managing a comprehensive safety and occupational health program to eliminate or control the risk of injury. Inspect all construction project sites as required for compliance with the stricter of the two regulations, EM 385-1-1 and OSHA 1926 Construction. Provide support in implementing the medical surveillance program, the hearing conservation program, and the respiratory protection program for construction field offices. Visit project sites looking for unhealthy conditions, unsafe noise levels, problems where respiratory equipment would be required and potential problems with toxic chemicals exist. Investigate and provide written report on mishaps involving injury to contractor personnel or damage to machinery, tools, materials or equipment. Develop and provide technical safety training to Construction field office personnel using a wide variety of materials, publications, exhibits, protective devices, and visual aids.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state-issued motor vehicle driver's license.
• Duty requires up to 35% travel time.
• May be selected at any grade level with non-competitive promotion potential to target grade. Non-competitive promotion potential to the target grade based on time-in-grade requirements and demonstrated ability to perform the higher graded duties.

OR Superior Academic Achievement: Successful completion of all the requirements for a bachelor's degree with a major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) OR degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology with Superior Academic Achievement. In order to be creditable under this provision, Superior Academic Achievement must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled. Time in Grade Requirement:

For GS-07 - Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).

For GS-09 - Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
