Duties
Plans and schedules work assignments on a daily or project-by-project basis for accomplishment within schedules and priorities established by higher level supervisors.
Reviews work schedules, determines manpower, equipment material requirements and methods to be used in order to meet established deadlines.
Provides technical direction and help in accomplishing difficult work steps and processes.
Assigns work to individual workers by verbal or written instructions.
Monitors work in progress to anticipate and resolve problems.
Enforces established work procedures and standard practices.
Explain management programs to subordinates, such as beneficial suggestions, quality assurance, safety and cost reduction.
Uses a variety of manual and automated equipment in performing duties.

Qualifications
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition. The SOE and minimum qualifications for this position is:
Ability to do the work of an Industrial Equipment Mechanic Supervisor without more than normal supervision (SOE): assist with planning and organizing work activities for employees. Examples Include: advise supervisor of problems involving disciplinary actions and counseling on conduct. Set goals and deadlines for accomplishing work; give instructions to employees on work procedures and safety.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Physical Effort
Frequently handles object weighing 45 pounds and occasionally carries or moves items weighing up to 70 pounds. Incumbent is required to push, pull, reach, walk, stand, crawl, kneel, bend and work in cramped positions over and under machinery of all types for sustained periods of time.
Working Conditions
Work is done indoors and outdoors, sometimes in bad weather. Floor and deck surfaces are sometimes uneven, oily, and slippery. Incumbent is frequently exposed to moving objects and sharp edges with the possibility of cuts and bruises, and to noise and vibration from machines. May climb and work from ladders and staging exposing the incumbent to the possibility of serious injury from slipping and falling. Dirt, grease, and dampness are frequently encountered. Welding involves exposure to fumes, infrared and ultraviolet radiation, heat, flying sparks, the glare of torches and heated materials, the possibility of eye injury, electrical shock, burns, broken bones and the change of cuts when working with sharp objects. There is discomfort when wearing safety equipment and clothing. Safety and Health Requirements: Employee is required to wear safety clothing and equipment appropriate for the job and work area where assigned, as directed by the supervisor. Types of protective clothing and equipment include, but are not limited to the following: eye, respiratory, and foot protection and protective clothing such as gloves, apron, and coveralls. Other types may be required as deemed necessary by authorized management officials. if employee works near or around noise hazardous areas, machinery, or equipment, the employee will be required to wear approved hearing protective devices and an audiometric test will be conducted, as necessary.
