The Program Support Assistant position is in the Privacy Office at the Columbia, SC VAMC. The primary duties are monitoring the Privacy & Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act annual ,training requirements, assisting with internal privacy investigations, entering Privacy and Security Event Tracking System into the tracking system, receiving and supporting amendments and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, and managing the records and filing systems

The Program Support Assistant will provide help to the Privacy Officer (PO) and the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) as the office assistant in support of the PO and FOIA programs.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/04/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute

In order to qualify for this position at the GS-6 level, you must possess the following:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Knowledge of HIPAA and the Privacy Act; ensuring confidential personnel and medical information are managed in accordance with agency requirements, HIPAA and the Privacy Act in relation the collection, use, maintenance, storage, and release of health information; maintain an efficient filing systems; effective oral and written communications skills to prepare written responses, reports, and information materials for a wide range of audience; monitoring annual training requirements and conducting training for staff on topics such as FOIA, New Employee Orientation and Supervisor training, Administrative Officer training and New Provider training, assisting Privacy office with EOC rounds and audits.

Physical Requirements: Regular and recurring work is mostly sedentary involving sitting at a desk, although the position requires the ability to move from one geographic location of the facility to another. Some physical effort such as standing, walking, bending or prolonged sitting may be required.
