About the Position: Serves as Director Emergency Services in the US Army Garrison Miami Directorate of Emergency Services (DES), at a medium to large garrison within the Installation Management Command (IMCOM), and as such, is the primary responsible manager for law enforcement, physical security and fire protection/prevention that encompasses a variety of sensitive and critical garrion wide programs.
Duties
Represent the garrison for fire protection/prevention matters to the surrounding civilian communities (i.e., local, county, state police departments and or civic interest groups).
Serve as Director of Emergency Services responsible for law enforcement and fire protection/prevention per Common Levels of Support system.
Integrate the response forces of the civilian community for anti-terrorism exercises and consequence management.
Ensure quality performance of contracted services of emergency medical treatment and ambulance services.
Exercise exclusive law enforcement jurisdiction for (i.e., investigations, apprehensions, and or detaining persons suspected or convicted of offenses).
Coordinate force protection measures with authorities of the local civilian community to ease traffic congestion.
Coordinate activities with other garrison directors to ensure effective management of law enforcement programs and services.
Manage the yearly budget and forecast resources for the Directorate of Emergency Services.
Counsel subordinates regarding grievances within established mission parameters on work or administrative matters.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This is a Key position (Emergency Essential). this position has been designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. TIER 3 Secret
- 1-year probationary period required for assignment to supervisory position.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- Position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Experience in managing, planning and or directing administrative fire and law enforcement operations; 2) Organizing, directing, and controlling functions of Emergency Services; 3) Advising and coordinating in matters of management and support. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12 or above).
