About the Position: Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to Veterans preference so long as such applicants are available for appointment. If there are no Veterans preference eligibles available, non preference applicants may be considered.

Duties
Set organizational goal and develop strategies to achieve targets while considering resource requirements.
Apply requirements for equipping and securing government and contractor facilities to guard against unauthorized access to ensure continuity of operations.
Manage workforce to include, organizing work, evaluating work performance, and ensuring staff is appropriately selected, utilized, and developed.
Manage training and education for individuals and groups within learning environments to include tailoring instruction to ensure learners' needs are met and learning outcomes are achieved.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain eligibility at the Secret level using a Tier 3 background investigation.
- Must be willing to serve a one year Supervisory probationary period, if not previously completed.
- Must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals.

- Drug testing designated position. Individual agrees to submit to a urinalysis on a random/recurring basis. Will be required to sign a DA Form 5019 - Conditions of Employment.
- Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
- Overtime may be required as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
- Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
- Incumbent must undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability.
- Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
- Employee must be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and must know first aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
- Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
- Incumbent will be required to pass an initial physical agility test (PAT) within 30 days of appointment. Failure to meet the PAT requirements will result in separation. Current guards expected to maintain physical conditioning and pass annual PAT.
- This position is designated as KEY in accordance with AR 690-11. Civilians in KEY positions much be exempted from recall to active duty because of Reserve or retired military obligations.
- Incumbent must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state drivers license. Loss of license may result in removal from the position.
- Must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform and maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
- Employee must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
- Must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
- Must be able to perform as a member of the installations overall security response capability. The duties and training require the employee to carry and deploy a riot baton, carry a protective shield and employ non-lethal ammunitions if necessary.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience which includes experience with a federal, state, municipal, local, or private protective organization (1) Protecting personnel and/or property against threats such as fire, theft, damage, accident and/or trespass; (2) Controlling access or patrolling restricted and limited access areas; and (3) Serving as a shift leader making daily assignments and ensuring work in progress meets supervisory instructions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level in the federal service (GS-07).
