This position is located in the DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY, UNITED STATES COAST GUARD, ASSISTANT COMMANDANT FOR RESOURCES/CFO (CG-8), Washington, DC.
Duties
You will serve as an Administrative Specialist in a Flag/SES level office Assistant Commandant (AC) or Deputy Assistant Commandant (DAC) managing the overall day-to-day administrative, office, and technical management processes. The services performed are highly confidential, diverse, often complex, and are time-sensitive to the operations of the organization.

- This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
- You may be required to serve a one-year probationary period.
Qualifications
To qualify for the GS-9 level: Applicants must have One (1) year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-8 in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience may include: monitoring the status of projects, reports, correspondence, appointments, managing/coordinating travel; serving as office timekeeper; maintaining incoming and outgoing mail and greeting and escorting office visitors.
OR
B. A Master's or equivalent graduate degree; Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; (or an LL.B. or J.D., if related. Admin and Management positions only);
OR
C. A Combination of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience as described above. This will be calculated using your resume and unofficial transcripts or a list of courses/course hours submitted with your application. NOTE: Only graduate education in excess of the first year may be used to qualify for the GS-09 level. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
To qualify for the GS-10 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level in the federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
Examples of specialized experience include:
Experience developing background information and composing draft's introductions and speeches to be presented by the principals at various meetings.
Experience coordinating schedules, deadlines, and methods of approach with management on various administrative matters and ensuring timely responses.
Experience reviewing and revising office procedures and practices for organizational efficiency.
Experience transmitting, receiving and acknowledging various information such as electronic mail, messages, time sensitive and confidential information.
Special experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
