Position is with the Eastern Kansas Health Care System - Topeka. Duties include general maintenance of support work, survey of buildings, review and completion of tasks in the area maintenance log (e.g., plumbing duties and medical repair).

Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to) Replaces fluorescent tubes, incandescent bulbs, ballast's, switches, receptacles, fixture cleaning/lens replacements. Installs short electrical runs, which include new conduit and wiring. Completes needed repairs to install systems and rearranges and hooks up items such as outlets, switches, light fixtures, regulators and circuit breakers. Performs all scheduled preventative maintenance by policy or direction. Repairs items of furniture such as decks, file cabinets, bookcases, and lockers. Clears sinks and toilet stoppages, adjusts and makes minor repairs on vacuum breakers, faucets, flush valves and other problems involving leaks. Capable of reading blueprints, sketches and written or oral instructions by higher level journeymen, work leaders or Supervisors. Work Schedule: 0800-1630 Monday - Friday and occasional off tour requirements as mission dictates. Compressed Work Schedule is authorized. Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Worker/PD08809A Physical Requirements: Required to climb ladders, reach and lift heavy loads over forty (40) pounds and walk long distances in a regular work day. A great amount of kneeling, bending and climbing of stairways is required. Standing on ladders for long periods of time at various heights. Employee must be able to wear safety and protective clothing or equipment prescribed for the work setting.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
