The primary purpose of this position is to perform clerical duties and carry out the daily operations of the front desk for Child and Youth Programs, specifically the Child Development Center Program. The position oversees and coordinates specialized clerical duties pertaining to the operation of the program.
Duties
Performs and oversees the administrative and clerical duties of the Child Development Programs.
Monitors and manages the reception desk.
Administers records, forms, supplies, and daily financial reports.
Compiles, revises or types Operating Instructions (OI's), regulations, registration packets for all Child Programs, class rosters, Parent Handbooks, HQ AF Services Activity Operation Reports, Multi-disciplinary Inspection Reports, annual budget reports, and all administrative correspondence for Child and Youth Development and related programs.

- Full/part-time employees occupying direct childcare positions are eligible for discounts IAW DAF AFSVC/CC Memo, 30 Sep 22; first child 100% / each additional child 25%. Other assigned CYP and FCC personnel are eligible for 25% discount.
- Travel and relocation expenses will NOT be paid.
- The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver?s license may be required for the position.
- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
- Designated CYP personnel are trained to administer medications and topical ointments. The training is updated annually or as needed for special circumstances.
- SCHR Check (background check) is required when working with and near children according to Public Law 101-647.
- Child and Youth Program personnel have a physical examination no later than 60 days after appointment. Physicals are updated every three years ensuring personnel are physically and behaviorally capable of performing duties of the job.
- This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program.
- Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
- This is not an Human Resources position, but this position will assist the Child Development Director with Non-Appropriated Fund Personnel Actions.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, General Administrative, Clerical, and Office Services.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-04, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes performing a full range of standard clerical assignments such as maintaining records, lists, recurring reports and files in accordance with office plan; using various software to create, copy, edit and print a variety of standardized documents and financial reports; program enrollment, ensuring documents are produced timely and in proper format with accuracy; monitoring sign in/out procedures, providing appropriate information and answering questions concerning types and availability of child care programs; accurately computes and collects, records payments, posts accounts and balances records.

EDUCATION: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.)

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience as described above may be used to qualify for this position, only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of format, rules, procedures, and operations applicable to clerical assignments to prepare/review routine correspondence/reports, screen telephone calls and visitors, maintain files/records, review and process mail, and perform clerical procedures to arrange a variety of materials from different sources and other administrative work of organization.
Knowledge of various office automation software programs, tools, and techniques to support office operations and produce a variety of documents, such as letters, reports, spreadsheets, databases, and graphs. Skill in typing is desired.
Knowledge and Child and Youth programs and procedures. Knowledge of Child and Youth policies, regulations and procedures pertaining to enrollment, fire protection, safety, health and child illnesses.
Ability to locate, assemble, and compose information for routine reports, inquiries, and non-technical correspondence.
Ability to plan, organize work, meets deadlines; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, using tact and courtesy.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
