About the Position: Works as an Airfield Operations Specialist responsible for coordinating and maintaining liaison with military, federal, and local agencies concerning airspace utilization, flying operations, aircraft emergencies, search and rescue operations, and natural disasters.
Duties
Receive, review and issue flight plans.
Conduct daily airfield inspections.
Issue Notice to Air Mission (NOTAM) concerning conditions, changes to facility, service, procedures and/or hazards.
Conduct search and recovery for overdue aircraft
Provide airfield physical security, monitoring gate access and key control.
Arrange appropriate priority for distinguished visitors.
Provide airfield information to tenant and transient units.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state drivers license.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Flight-line drivers license.
- Mission Essential. Required to report for duty during inclement weather, natural disasters, and other emergency situations as directed by the Senior Leadership.
- May be required to remain on duty after the official shift ends, i.e., mandatory overtime; subject to recall to duty. Must maintain a functioning telephone to aid in contact during recall/emergency situations.
- This position requires irregular hours of work, and rotating shifts to include nights, weekends, and holidays with high periods of stress. Subject to changes in shift assignments following regulated notice periods.
- Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) may be required up to 10% of the time.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.
- Tentatively selected applicants will be required to sign a DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- Must be able to pass pre-employment and periodic medical examinations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience and/or education requirements described below. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience which includes gather information to brief aircrew regarding airport/airfield area ground and airspace issues; conduct routine airfield/airport inspections for safety, security, and operational functionality; coordinate and de conflict the movement of aircraft and/or ground equipment through the use of electronic and radio equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
OR
Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree In afield which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Air Traffic Management (NOTE:Must provide transcripts).
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate Page 3 of 58/21/2023 7:21 EDT semester hours minus 18) by 18.
