This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Office (CWMD). CWMD's mission is to develop strategies to protect the country from threats.
This position serves as a Scientific/Technical Intelligence Analyst responsible for conducting complex in-depth threat analysis to produce intelligence products and provide chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear specific expertise.
Non-BU: This is a non-bargaining unit position.
Duties
As a Physical Scientist (Scientific/Technical Intelligence), GS-1301-14, your typical work assignments may include:
Develops comprehensive collection plans to address very difficult intelligence gaps through innovative use of existing collection assets, preparing technical specifications for specialized collection devices or designing collection solutions that overcome limitations of existing collection resources.
Designs innovative interdisciplinary or in-depth study projects to produce integrated, targeted intelligence products based on expert knowledge of a very broad and complex subject area developed through extensive research and application of state-of-the-art techniques in relevant technical areas.
Develops new or redesigned products tailored for key intelligence consumers and regularly briefs decision makers at DHS Component and other customers.
Maintains continuous contacts with counterparts within DHS and the other Federal agencies and organizations to ensure awareness of new or redirected programs impacted by assigned subject area.
Produces intelligence assessments in various formats, serves quick-reaction requests, and maintains current briefings in the area of regionalized CBRN-WMD capabilities and threat assessment.
Regularly represents DHS on high-level intelligence community working groups and committees, developing a joint intelligence position for presentation to decision makers.

Qualifications
Basic Requirement: You must meet the Individual Occupational Requirements for the 1301 series as listed below:
OPTION A. Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
OR
OPTION B: Combination of education and experience: education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the minimum qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience:
You qualify for the GS-14 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal government, performing duties such as:
Evaluating developments in physical science research to recommend incorporation into office operations and activities;
Authoring or contributing to the development of scientific or technical publications, such as white papers, journal articles, intelligence products;
Presenting findings on scientific or technical topics to a professional audience, such as briefing senior leaders, presenting at symposiums, or panels/working groups; AND
Providing technical advice to develop a systematic approach to solving problems related to scientific research programs.
Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level.
