Duties
At the full performance level, the duties of the position are as follows:
Collects biological and habitat data during outdoor field investigations using a wide range of equipment and methods while complying with scientific collecting permits, incidental take permits/biological opinions, and appropriate state and federal environmental rules and regulations.
Inventories fish and wildlife species, documents breeding activity, and records physical condition of individuals, population demographics, and habitat parameters. This will involve handling animals (i.e., fishes, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and insects).
Prepares samples, performs data analysis, reviews data to find and correct errors, and prepares correspondence and reports of survey results pertaining to technical aspects of the work.
Participates in the planning of complex studies and investigations concerning biological, chemical, and physical processes that affect ecosystems and the success of restoration activities.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must first meet the Basic Education Qualification Requirements listed below:
QUALIFICATIONS FOR GS-0401, BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES
1. Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

2. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in 1 above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to meeting the educational requirements above:
GS-07: In order to qualify for the GS-07 grade level, your resume must reflect one year of full time specialized experience equivalent in complexity and difficulty to at least the GS-05 grade level in Federal service OR 1 year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement.
Specialized Experience for GS-07: Experience includes conducting field surveys of a variety of animal and plant species, and in the use of computer resources to input, format, analyze and report on data collected.
GS-09: In order to qualify for the GS-09 grade level, your resume must reflect one year of full time specialized experience equivalent in complexity and difficulty to at least the GS-07 grade level in Federal service OR 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree.
Specialized Experience for GS-09: Experience conducting surveys of a variety of animal and plant species, and ability to analyze complex datasets using a variety of technologies such as GIS, web-based systems or statistical software for data entry and associated administrative processes.
The superior academic achievement provision is to be used to determine eligibility for applicable GS-07 level positions of persons who have completed (or expect to complete within 9 months) all the requirements for bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a qualifying grade point average (GPA), class standing, or honors society. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Time-In-Grade: Current career or career-conditional employees of the Federal government, or former career or career-conditional employees, who have a break in service of less than one year, are required to meet the time-in-grade restriction of one year of Federal experience at the next lower-grade, with few exceptions outlined in 5 CFR 300.603(b). Applicants eligible under the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA) are not required to meet time-in-grade restrictions in order to be considered.
Selective Placement Factor: This position requires a current valid driver's license and pre-employment physical.

Education
This position has a
mandatory education requirement. You must submit a copy of college transcript(s) (unofficial copy is acceptable) to support claimed education if substituting education for experience. Transcripts must include the name of the college or university and date the degree was conferred. Non-submission will result in being rated not-qualified for the position.
You will be required to provide official college transcripts to verify educational qualifications, if selected. An official transcript must be sent directly from the University's Registrar's office and must be provided from the institution awarding the degree. Academic transcripts certified by notary publics are NOT official. Official transcripts must be submitted prior to reporting to work as a condition of employment. Failure to submit official transcripts may be grounds for dismissal or rescission of the job offer.

Foreign Education: To receive credit for education completed outside the United States, you must show proof that the education has been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and such education has been deemed at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs.
